題目 配列ナノ空間を利用した物質科学---基礎理学とその応用

要旨 Recent progresses in nano cluster materials have resulted in a surge of interests . We are currently studying nano size materials comprised from IV^th -group elements of C, Si, Ge and Sn, for achieving new insights to fundamental understanding in physical/chemical phenomena and properties, as well as for development of advanced electronic device materials. Crystals built up from these building blocks show an extremely small amount of dangling bonds reflecting the advantages of the bottom-up materials engineering. The crystals thus formulated generally show semiconducting properties and intriguing electronic properties can be expected by both chemical and physical carrier doping. The constructed cluster-network crystals have architectural structure and consequently various modifications are possible. Along this concept, a various network materials can be created using the standard elements on the earth with rich natural abundance. Phonons ranging from intra-cluster to lattice vibrations play an important role for controlling electronic and thermal properties that cannot be realized by the conventional materials comprised of atoms. Itinerant electron/hole carries spreading over the cluster-network give rise to conduction carriers, and endohedral atomic elements and molecules produce unconventional phonons with anharmonic oscillations. The interplay among conduction-electrons, magnetic-electrons and exotic phonons produces novel electronic properties that have not ever been observed in the conventional materials. Explore novel materials using these new concepts of materials science towards this future dream will be discussed.
